ROCHESTER — Public Works crews and city engineers spent Wednesday evaluating the Rochester Hill water tower that sparked a massive emergency response when it began leaking Tuesday, but said they are still not certain what caused the leak.
The leak was first discovered around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday when a nearby resident, Parul Thakar, manager of the Hi-Vu Motor Inn, which sits only feet away from the tank, reported to the city's Water Department hearing strange banging sounds, which she described as a loud blast, like fireworks, coming from the tower.
According to City Engineer Peter Nourse, Public Works employees were actually in the area doing routine maintenance and noticed the leak around the same time it was reported by the resident.
