This illuminated Walk to Bethlehem has been a beloved Christmas display brightening eastern Levy County a bit north of Romeo in neighboring Marion County, every December for seven years now.
It also includes a twinkling lights maze, a buzzin' main street, trains and Santa and Mrs. Claus — all for the kids.
“Somewhere, we're all children,” says Midge Fields, who six years ago helped originate the display that's open 7 to 9 every night through Friday. And it's all free.
Make no mistake, many local homes and yards are decked out for the holidays. Some more than others. Living Water Life Center is one of them.
“Lights? Yes, we've put up a few,” quips Pastor Dana Fields, Midge's son. He says he's lost count of exactly how many but estimates there are about 100,000 now. Actually, this display on State Road 121, south of Williston, easily rivals all but the largest of commercial displays in and around Ocala.
“We've always been drawn to the story of Christmas, the story of Joseph and Mary's walk,” Pastor Fields says. “We thought, why not let it come to life? We've got all this room, let's make it real.
