MERIDEN, CT -- New York recording artist Roxy Perry will be singing for a cause when she returns November 26 to Rosie's Cafe on Camp Street in Meriden for a 7 p.m. performance to benefit both the Hole In The Wall Gang Camp and The Leukemia & Lymphona Society.
Perry previously performed at Rosie's, which features live music every Friday and Saturday night, for the restaurant's first anniversary in 2008. This will be the blues singer's third visit to the venue, this time with her R&B Review and jazz musician Billy Foster.
The benefit is sponsored by Concerts with Causes, with portions of ticket sales going to both charities.
Perry began her singing career young at age nine by fronting swing bands at the Glen Island Casino in New Rochelle, N.Y. and performed her first major concert at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles the same year. In her early teens, she began fronting her own bands, and by her late teens, she was working six nights a week with her 10-piece soul band at the Peppermint Lounge on 45th Street and Times Square in New York. She was discovered at the Peppermint Lounge and did her first studio recording as a back-up vocalist. That led to her going on tour for four years with the pop-rock band, Dawn. The band headlined concert tours with Kenny Rogers, The Carpenters, Rare Earth, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Iron Butterfly, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Mike Nesmith (of The Monkees fame) among others. In the 1980's, Perry recorded an "EP" that was released on Personal Records, produced by Richie Cordell. The recording earned high rankings on the Billboard charts for two months.
