Santa Rosa interior designer Susy McBride has a better idea. Why not smooth over the transition by sweeping away some of the most obvious yuletide symbols today and then freshening up what is left with a New Year's theme?
If you're entertaining, all the better. Maybe you'll throw an impromptu New Year's Eve get-together for others who failed to plan. Or better yet, invite friends and neighbors to stop by on New Year's Day for a mimosa and well wishes.
"Your presentation has so much to do with the mood when you're creating an impromptu party," says McBride. And yet you can keep it ultra simple so you can have a good time.
Here are some ideas to make your home sparkle in that New Year's way. And you don't have to spend any more than $50.
Start at the Door: The entry is a potent statement for you and any guests who pass your threshold. Strip away any Christmasy ornaments or ribbons from your wreath and replace them with a few little New Year's symbols you can pick up at a party store or craft's emporium.
