Some say there is no such thing as an ugly win, but the Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon high school girls basketball team's 62-57 win over Rushville-Industry on Monday night certainly fit the criteria.
The Spartans used a 8-0 run at the end of the third quarter to get some separation in a back-and-forth affair that featured 44 turnovers — including 27 from the winning team.
"We needed to control our game and slow it down and we didn't do that for stretches," B-PC/A coach Julie Blout said. "We just wanted to get the ball down the court, square up and take control and we did that during that run."
Trailing 39-37 after a 3-pointer by Tanner Breedlove of R-I, the Spartans put together it best stretch of basketball
in the final two minutes of the third quarter and into the start of the fourth quarter to take a double-digit lead at 50-39.
Kim Norris scored the final points of the third and opened the fourth with a foul and basket, putting the Spartans up 48-39. Norris led all scorers 21 points and collected 12 rebounds.
