Butler Creek Flip Open Scope Cover Question?

Question: I have a pair of butler creek flip open caps on my rifle scope. i've seen them positioned to flip up but also seen them flipped to the side. is there any advantage doing it either way? i have mine flipping up but am considering rotating them to the side. thanks

Answer: I have the Butler Creek flip open caps on all of my rifle scopes.
They are really designed to be positioned up and down (North/ South).
When positioned that way --- and as VLD said --- I can naturally raise my right thumb, and press the red release latch on the

To each their own. If flipping to the side I'd flip it to your dominant side. That way it won't obscure your field of vision with your non dominate eye.

Just in time for the 70th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor comes naval historian Ian W. Toll with "Pacific Crucible," subtitled, "War at Sea in the Pacific, 1941-42."

The subtitle overstates the scope of the book. War came to the Pacific only in the last month of 1941 — and for all intents and purposes, Toll ends his book a few months later, in June 1942, with the American victory at the battle of Midway.

But what an epic few months they were. Toll's book does a good job of capturing strategy, tactics, weaponry and, especially, people, on the Japanese side as well as the American.

He opens with America's turn-of-the-century naval awakening, crediting naval theorist Alfred Thayer Mahan and President Theodore Roosevelt of "Great White Fleet" fame. Toll spells out the thinking behind the Japanese decision to attack the United States (and the nagging doubts of Japanese Adm. Isoroku Yamamoto, who mused, "If we are ordered to do it, then I can raise havoc with the Americans for the first six months or a year, but I have absolutely no confidence as to what would happen if it went on for two or three years").
